Town of NOrmal
My most impactful project that I worked on at the Town of Normal was several series of sign updates for parks all over Normal, IL.
The parks in normal had preexisting signs but they all look very different because they were made by different designers. As of 2022 The Town of Normal created an updated and more robust brand guide for designers to follow when creating new assets for the Town. The Parks & Recreation Department needed their various signs to adhere to these new guidelines and it was my job to achieve this goal for them.
The people in my office started calling me “the sign guy” because of the sheer amount of signs I created. Ended up creating hundreds of signs while employed at the Town.
Only a few of these signs have been printed so far, but they will be placed in every park, playground, and public courts in Normal, IL.
Karraker Aquatic center
wayfinding and Informational Signage
In addition to all of the Town of Normal branded signs, my largest project was the rebranding of Fairview Aquatic Center. The water park which is owned by the Town of Normal changed its name to Karraker Aquatic Center. A new logo was made by a senior designer. It was my job to add this new logo on a cohesive set of over 40 signs created by me. These signs were wayfinding and rules signs that were scattered throughout the park.
Tennis & Pickleball Courts rules signs
Rules signs for tennis and pickleball courts in Normal. These signs were placed at the entrances of courts within the parks to inform users how to maintain a safe environment for community members.
Rocky the rattler Sign
Rocky the Rattler was a painted rock snake placed in Fransen Nature Park. Community members are encouraged to paint their own rock and add it to Rocky to grow its length. My sign was placed by Rocky’s head and explains the project's intentions.
Shelter Rules signs
Various shelters scatter the parks in Normal, IL. These signs were posted inside these shelters to avoid confusion on how they were to be used.
bicycle safety town
Roadwork ahead
Road Work Ahead sign for safety town. Bicycle safety town is a feature within Carden Park where children can go to learn bicycle safety in a safe environment. This sign is meant to mimic the real world sign while maintenance is being conducted in the park.
Park Rules Signs
Parks Rules Signs placed at the entrance of parks and playgrounds in Normal, IL. These signs inform park goers of the rule they are expected to follow to maintain a safe environment for community members.
Uptown Normal Circle
Keep off the water feature
This sign was created to keep people out of the water feature in the Uptown Normal Circles’ water feature. This water feature is in the center of a roundabout. People commonly climb into the water harming the fish in the water.
